Belgian police have been groping in the dark for months, much to the indignation of the population. Paul Chartier, a young, idealistic police officer, is recruited for the secret operation "Maldoror," charged with surveilling the previously convicted sex offender Marcel Dedieu. While team Maldoror gathers one clue after another, Chartier and his colleagues still don't make any headway due to the completely dysfunctional police system. When more girls disappear, there is only one thing for Chartier to do: start a manhunt himself. After his Ardennes trilogy (Calvaire-Alléluia-Adoration) and Inexorable, Brussels cult director Fabrice du Welz has begun a new trilogy in which he wants to look the darkest sides of Belgian history straight in the eye. Maldoror, about the infamous Dutroux case, is the first part of it.
