11fountains pop-up exhibition

Since 2018, every town in Friesland has had a fountain designed by an internationally renowned artist. This project, called 11fountains, was conceived and curated by art curator Anna Tilroe. The gurgling, spraying and splashing water tells the stories of the city. With the landscape as a breathtaking canvas, the 11fountains form Europe's largest sculpture garden.

Anna invited the artists to Fryslân to get acquainted with the cities, the province and its inhabitants. The art project not only reflects the identity of Fryslân, but also represents the Frisian "iepen mienskip" (community) through the collaboration of local and international craftsmanship. Photos from the archives show how the artists visited Fryslân. We take a look behind the scenes at the various builders and craftsmen who collaborated to bring the artists' ideas to life.

You will also see how the fountains have been captured over the years by tourists, art lovers and Frisian photographers. From artistic interpretations and campaign images to a visitor's prize-winning photo and the jury report.

The presentation is on display through December 8 at art center Atrium in Sneek
