Big Band Friesland 50 years

The Bogerman Bigband has been a purveyor to the semi-professional Big Band Friesland for the past several decades, and currently seven members of Big Band Friesland have been or are still members of the Bogerman Bigband at one time or another.

When it comes to big band jazz, you have to be in the north of the Netherlands with Big Band Friesland. In recent years, this orchestra has become a close-knit club of professional musicians and good amateurs, whose goal is to play big band jazz at the highest possible level. The orchestra is currently under the direction of Steven Sluiter.
Big Band Friesland drew attention in 2018 by participating in the project 'Myn Skip' in Earnewâld. 'Myn Skip' was in itself a special open-air theater spectacle, which was only made more special by the musical contribution of Big Band Friesland - with music composed especially for this event by Herman Woltman. 'Myn Skip' won - amidst all the cultural activities because of LC2018 - the 2018 Friese Anjer, the Prince Bernhard Fund's culture prize.
At the International Big Band Concours in Hoofddorp, Big Band Friesland won second prize in 2021.
Every year new big band musicians are trained in the Bogerman Big Band, and of these, quite a few have continued in Big Band Friesland over the past 35 years. There are currently eight musicians in Big Band Friesland who have had their first big band experiences in the Bogerman Bigband. For Big Band Friesland, the Bogerman Bigband is a "purveyor of musicians.

The Bogerman Bigband is one of the school orchestras of CSG Bogerman in Sneek. Under the enthusiastic leadership of music teacher Sjoerd Hiemstra (who took over from Anne Oosterhaven in 2020) and math teacher Bob Pruiksma (bass guitar), this orchestra has been going strong for over 35 years. Various tours have been made, including to Germany, Denmark, England, Luxembourg and Belgium. The Bogerman Bigband has won several prizes at the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours. The Bogerman Bigband plays on many kinds of occasions, for example every year it guarantees a party on De Markstraat during Út Sneek. Memorable is playing for 40,000 people on the Malieveld in The Hague, during the national strike in education.
The Bogerman Bigband is a school orchestra. At the end of each school year some of the members graduate and then leave school, including the big band. This means that after the summer vacation we have to rebuild with new young musicians. The fact that every year again this big band succeeds in reaching a high level and that the Bogerman Bigband has been a household name in Friesland for years, may be called a great achievement.
