Oeuvre exhibition of Frisian Cobra artist Jan van der Meulen (90) at Galerie Bax Kunst
In honor of his 90th birthday, Galerie Bax Kunst is dedicating a special oeuvre exhibition to the work of Frisian artist Jan van der Meulen. The exhibition offers a colorful overview of his rich artistic career and places special emphasis on his steel and stone prints - works that are both playful and deeply human, and cannot be separated from the influence of the Cobra movement. Not for nothing is Jan van der Meulen often described as the Frisian Cobra artist.

In addition to these expressive and figurative works, the gallery also shows a series of his most recent creations. These contemporary, committed works of art testify to Van der Meulen's unrelenting inner urge to create and his gratitude for being able to work in freedom. In times when freedom of expression cannot be taken for granted, these works are a quiet but powerful plea for the value of artistic freedom - a freedom that was so under pressure in the past, during the war and the period of "entartete Kunst.

A special chapter in Van der Meulen's career is his entry in the Guinness Book of Records for realizing the largest lithograph ever made - 91 by 191 centimeters. A technical and artistic tour de force that underlines his craftsmanship and passion for experimentation.

The exhibition is completed with colorful objects from the stock of Galerie Bax Kunst, creating a multifaceted and inspiring picture of Van der Meulen's oeuvre and his significance within Dutch modern art.

About Jan van der Meulen
Jan van der Meulen (born 1935) belongs to the generation of artists who developed their own formal language from the ideals of the Cobra movement. His work is characterized by expressive application of color, intuitive imagery and a ceaseless search for freedom - in art and in life.
