Exhibition Raerd & the Raerders
- weekly on Saturday starting July 4, 2026 until September 5, 2026
13:30 - 17:00
During this summer's open house as part of Tsjerkepaad, Raerd's Laurentius Church is hosting an exhibition entitled "Raerd & the Raerders. The exhibition has been arranged by the members of the Dokumintekommisje Raerd, a group of villagers engaged in recording the history of the village.
After a year and a half of preparation, including the collection of information and countless photographs, they succeeded in putting together thirteen large information panels depicting the past and present of all kinds of components and aspects of Raerd society. With the collected photos and short texts, the relevant themes are illustrated and explained. In addition, two large horizontal panels, each measuring about five square meters, tell about the history of the village and the various neighborhoods that are part of it.
Themes on the information panels include the school, the farms, the ice club, the Laurentius Church, the facilities for youth and cultural topics such as singing and theater (and elpenloftspul). The whole gives a wonderful picture of what community life looked like more than a hundred years ago and how it has developed to this day.
The exhibition in the Laurentius Church is on display during Tsjerkepaad from July 4 through September 5 on Saturday afternoons from 1:30 - 5:00 pm. Of course, in addition to the exhibition, the beautiful church interior, restored in 2009-2012, can also be viewed.
