  • 2 August en 3 August

During Sneekweek, you can try your hand at fierljeppen in downtown Sneek. With a short run-up, you’ll use a pole vault to jump across the water and try to land safely on the mat on the other side. Before your jump, a volunteer from the Frysk Ljeppers Boun will give you instructions.

Fierljeppen has its roots in the Frisian countryside, where farmers used to use poles to cross ditches. Today, it’s an official competitive sport. This activity is all about giving it a try yourself and seeing how far you can go. Keep in mind that you might end up in the water.

The activity takes place on Sunday, August 2, and Monday, August 3, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Kerkgracht near the Bolwerk. There are time slots at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. A maximum of twenty participants can join per time slot. On Monday, the activity will be temporarily suspended during the Rubber Boat Race.

Participation is open to children ages 12 and up and adults. You must have swimming certificates A and B and be physically fit. Wear athletic clothing and sneakers, and bring a change of dry clothes just in case. Advance registration is recommended. You can also register on-site as long as there are still spots available.
