Filmhuis Sneek: Hamnet

In Hamnet, we follow Agnes and William, at first glance an ordinary family in 16th-century England. Agnes is a healer with a deep knowledge of herbs and the human body. William, her husband, is a talented and well-known writer, which sometimes clashes with the family's daily life. Their oldest daughter Susanna cares for her younger sibling, twins Judith and Hamnet. The village they live in struggles with poverty, disease and fear. There is plague, and loss is at the heart of the story. Illness and loss affect the family, and so unfolds a story of love, grief and the germ of the masterpiece Hamlet, as seen through Agnes' eyes.
