Fleet Review Afternoon Program

On Friday afternoon, the area around Sneek’s Waterpoort is bustling with activity. Between 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., the city guides from the Fries Scheepvaart Museum will be waiting at the top of the tower to tell visitors all about the city’s iconic landmark. Anyone who’s always wanted to take a look inside the Waterpoort now has the chance.

Starting at 3:00 p.m., there will be various activities for children and families. Young creative minds can participate in a drawing workshop, where they’re free to depict the Waterpoort in their own unique way: realistically, mysteriously, or perhaps cheerfully and colorfully. Using pencils, markers, and watercolors, they’ll create a one-of-a-kind version of the famous building.

Sports enthusiasts can try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) at this special location near the Waterpoort. Children with a swimming certificate are free to enter and exit the water to give SUP a try. Scouting Sneek will also be there: they’re inviting children to hop into a canoe and discover what Scouting has to offer. Canoeing is available for children ages 6 through 14, starting from the Hoogend behind the Waterpoort.

In addition, the city will be filled with rhythm: both beginners and experienced musicians can join the drum workshop. Enthusiasm is what matters most, and participants are free to come and go as they please. The workshop is suitable for children ages 6 and up and is accessible to people with disabilities.

Finally, the Boat of the Year 2026 is on display in the Kolk, next to the Waterpoort. Each year, a vessel is chosen that has attracted attention in a special way, and this year, visitors can admire the winning boat up close.
