Fries Scheepvaart Museum accessible for free during Open Monument Day
On Saturday, September 13, it is Open Monument Day and we celebrate 500 years of a free shopping city. Therefore, on this day the museum is open to everyone for free! It is the place in the center of Sneek where a lot can be seen and heard about the rich Frisian shipping history and about the city of Sneek.

Saturday, September 13, 2025 is Open Monument Day. Sneek is also celebrating 500 years of a free merchant city that weekend.
Museum open free of charge
The Fries Scheepvaart Museum is the place in Sneek where you can see and hear a lot about the rich Frisian shipping history. Also about the city of Sneek and its iconic Waterpoort you will find many objects from past and present in the museum. As a city museum we therefore open our doors between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and everyone can enter for free!
Watergate also accessible
On this special day, the Waterpoort is also open to the public. Have you always wanted to see inside? Then this is your chance. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. you are welcome at this iconic gate at the edge of the city center.
