GOLD by Bert van Santen at Galerie Bax Kunst

From April 4 to June 27, 2026, Galerie Bax Kunst presents the national premiere of the series GOLD by Dutch artist Bert van Santen. This exhibition marks a special milestone within the artist's extensive oeuvre and offers an integral overview of this new series of works for the first time in the Netherlands.

Bert van Santen (1958, Leerdam) lives and works in Zaandam. After studying Cultural Anthropology at Utrecht University, he developed into a versatile artist. Since the 1980s his work has been exhibited in museums and galleries at home and abroad. His oeuvre is characterized by intellectual depth, a strong handwriting of his own and an intriguing combination of materials and techniques.

The series GOLD originated in his studio in Zaandam and builds on earlier experiments with gold. In 2025, Van Santen decided to focus on the theme of gold in an extensive new series. The result is a rich and layered body of paintings, sculptures and works on paper in a variety of formats.

Within GOLD, material plays an essential role. Van Santen combines oil paint, acrylic, percussion metals, lead, dried plants, wood and epoxy, among other materials. The use of gold is the connecting factor in the series and, in conjunction with over forty years of artistry and his recognizable signature, shapes a coherent and impressive collection.

With this exhibition, Galerie Bax Kunst offers visitors a unique opportunity to become acquainted with a new and important phase in the work of Bert van Santen. GOLD underlines his position as one of the leading contemporary artists in the Netherlands and invites art lovers and collectors to be the first to experience this special series.
