Lecture by Janke Kingma: captain of the Bark Europa
- Wednesday 15 October
19:30 - 21:00
"On land you can grab your phone for information at any time, but at sea you only have yourself, the stars and the wind." As one of the captains of the Bark Europa, Janke Kingma sails to the most remote destinations such as Antarctica, Ushuaia and the Azores. At the helm of the historic tallship, she must cooperate with the weather and the elements to navigate the ocean.
In her lecture, Janke Kingma takes us aboard. She tells about the history of the ship, her work as captain, the research they do and the natural phenomena they encounter.
