Lecture GGZ 'read the other, start the conversation'
- Thursday 4 June
19:30 - 21:00
Many people want to do something for another person, but don't know what to say or do. Two GGZ Friesland employees discuss what you can do if you are worried and how to start a conversation.
You're walking through town and see someone talking out loud to themselves. You're at a birthday party and notice that friend is absent and quieter than usual. Or you're sitting in the library and see someone staring ahead, holding hands. What do you do then? Do you walk on? Or do you enter the conversation?
Would you like to start a conversation in such a situation, but aren't quite sure how? Then you are not the only one. Many people want to mean something to someone else, but don't know what to say or do. During this evening we will discuss this with each other. In an open and accessible way.
What can you expect during this meeting?
Diny de Haan and Joke Koning both work at GGZ Friesland. They share their knowledge and experience and are happy to talk with you. Together we will talk about:
- What you can do if you are worried about someone's mental health
- How to start a conversation
- What helps. And what doesn't
- There is room to listen and ask questions

This activity is part of Mental Health Week. Mental Health Week 2026 will take place June 1-7, 2026, and its theme is Bridging. We bridge to understand each other and do together what is really needed to become more mentally resilient as people and as a society. Think about bridging: connection between head and heart, alone and together, public and private, policy and practice.
