Lecture on the NV Friesche Kofscheepsreederij
- Wednesday 11 February 2026
19:30 - 21:00
After the Fourth English War (1780-1784) and the French occupation (1795 - 1813), there was not much left of the once numerous Frisian fleet of overseas cargo ships. This, of course, also affected the Frisian shipyards that built these ships. The vast majority of these shipyards were deserted by 1830.
Father and son Tromp from Woudsend tried to turn this tide. They founded a Limited Company for this purpose, at that time a rare form of enterprise in shipping. They launched four kofschepen. On Feb. 11, maritime historian Gerben Groenhof will take a closer look at the ups and downs of the N.V. Friesche Kofscheepsreederij, which existed for only ten years.
The lecture begins at 7:30 pm, walk-in with coffee/tea from 7 pm. Admission: €7.50, free for members of the Friesche Scheepvaart Museum Association and museum card holders. Please register in advance via balie@friesscheepvaartmuseum.nl or phone number 0515-414057.
