Last summer, "The Widows of Lemmer, a Frisian Bakers' Chronicle" was published by Age Bakker. As a descendant of these widows, he researched nearly 3 centuries of family history. On Wednesday, January 14, Bakker will give a lecture on these powerful widow women in a hard man's world.

On Wednesday, January 14, writer Age Bakker will give a lecture at the museum. We will meet some of the widows, such as Meino Poppes, from the Wouden, who moved to bustling Lemmer around 1770 and survived her two husbands and three sons. And boatman's daughter Hendrikje Feites, who was on her own with eight children but successfully continued the bakery at the sea lock. As widows, they became masters of their own money again, and they did well.

The lecture begins at 7:30 pm, walk-in with coffee/tea from 7 pm. Admission is €7.50. Members of the Fries Scheepvaart Museum Association and museum card holders have free admission. Please register in advance via balie@friesscheepvaartmuseum.nl or tel 0515-414057.
