Movie House: Sirat Oliver Laxe

The Moroccan desert provides the imposing backdrop for this dangerous quest, with some memorable moments that put Spanish director Oliver Laxe definitively on the map.

Luis arrives with his infant son Esteban at an illegal rave deep in the desert of southern Morocco. He is looking for his daughter Mar, who disappeared months ago during one of these boundless parties. Desperate to find any last trace of Mar, they follow a group of ravers even deeper into the desert. This becomes a physical and spiritual trip, accompanied by a hypnotic soundtrack.

Sirat won the Jury Prize and at the Cannes Film Festival. Besides actor Sergi López, Oliver Laxe relies mainly on an inexperienced cast. The film was co-produced by Pedro Almodóvar's production company and is on the Oscar shortlist for Best International Film.
