During Open Museum Month, ice cream fever reigns at the Fries Scheepvaart Museum. Did you know that the museum keeps a very nice ice cream collection?

You can see the 'wood' on which Ids Postma learned to skate, as well as the official challenge prizes from the Elfstedentocht. The newest acquisition is 'Pellikaan's box'. The Frisian general practitioner used this box when he carried out doping checks at important skating competitions in the Netherlands.

In the museum café this month, you can make your own Leekster branch. These are flowers made of paper that were sold as a souvenir in Leek, to skaters who made a trip to Groningen. Not such a tinkerer? There are also coloring sheets and of course there is cake and whipped cream!
