July 1 to August 16 Simmer yn Sudwest, daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Starting July 1, the Zwettebrug (Kapelstraat-Jachthavenstraat) and the Laatste Stuiverbrug (Looxmagracht-2e Oosterkade) will run on call daily between 11:00 and 18:00 for six weeks. Operating the two bridges creates a direct connection of the Zwette with the Prins Hendrikkade and the Houkesloot. Sunday, September 1, is the last day. Sloops and motorboats with a headway of up to one and a half meters can use the bridges.
Waterstad van het Noorden Stichting Waterstad Sneek has been working for several years on an ambitious project, in cooperation with the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, to make Sneek's canals even more navigable and thus make the inner city more accessible to water sports enthusiasts. The aim is to raise the bridges to 1.50 meters as standard. This will eliminate the need for bridge controls and make the city canal completely navigable. The foundation is encouraged by the Vereniging Ondernemend Sneek and has Mayor Jannewietske de Vries as ambassador. The realization of the project will contribute to a better liveability, wider prosperity and a strengthened economic climate for the whole of Súdwest-Fryslân.
