Opening of the Zwette Bridges in Sneek (Sneek Boat Tour)
- Wednesday 1 July t/m Sunday 16 August
10:00 - 18:00
Once again this year, the bridges over the Zwette will open during the summer, and the Koninginnebrug will be operated at scheduled times.
May 9: Opening of the 2026 water sports season from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
July 1 through August 16: Simmer yn Sudwest, daily from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Starting July 1, the Zwette Bridge (Kapelstraat–Jachthavenstraat) and the Laatste Stuiver Bridge (Looxmagracht–2e Oosterkade) will operate daily on demand between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. for six weeks. Operating these two bridges creates a direct connection between the Zwette and the Prins Hendrikkade and the Houkesloot. Sunday, September 1, is the last day. Sloops and motorboats with a clearance height of up to one and a half meters can use the bridges.
Waterstad van het Noorden The Waterstad Sneek Foundation has been working for several years on an ambitious project—in collaboration with the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân—to make Sneek’s canals even more navigable and thereby improve access to the city center for water sports enthusiasts. The goal is to raise the bridges to a standard height of 1.50 meters. This will eliminate the need for manual bridge operations and allow for a complete circumnavigation of the city canal. The foundation is supported by the Vereniging Ondernemend Sneek and has Mayor Jannewietske de Vries as its ambassador. The completion of the project will contribute to a better quality of life, greater prosperity, and a stronger economic climate for the entire Súdwest-Fryslân region.
All information and the new (temporary) navigation routes can be found at www.waterstadsneek.nl.
