André the astronaut - Klein Amsterdam Productions
How do you become a good astronaut? Do you need to know where the planets are? And how do you actually get there, in space?
In André the astronaut, a little boy investigates these questions from behind his computer. Using the Internet, he learns everything he needs to know about space and prepares for his trip to the moon. He is busy on globe.com. He searches and clicks and one package after another is delivered. From one box he takes the earth, from another the bellowing sun. The solar system emerges in fluid motions, supported by beautiful music. Objects become magically beautiful. The boy builds and repairs, eventually traveling to the moon in a rocket he built himself. Once on the moon, he explores and makes an extraordinary discovery.
In this solo performance, including the voice of André Kuipers assisted by unique soundscapes by composer and music artist Daan van West, children are playfully introduced to space travel, life as an astronaut and our fragile planet. It is a theatrical translation of Kuipers' book André het astronautje, in which he shows how wonderful the earth is, that technology and science are super fun and how cool it is to make dreams come true.
