In 2025 Sneek will celebrate 500 years of the Merchant City, and we won't let that go unnoticed! Discover the rich commercial history of Sneek with a varied program of activities for residents and visitors alike.

There will be an art and book market, Open Monument Day and UITfestival, an exhibition on the history of Sneek, old and new Dutch games for children, a Street Parade, City Announcers Competition, Frisian Ring Riding Championship, wool theme market, music, street theater and much more. Welcome to Sneek and enjoy these free activities!

500 years city history Sneek
Sneek already received some city rights in the 13th century, but only in the 15th century these were definitively confirmed. In September 1925, Sneek's 400th anniversary as a free Merchant Town was celebrated grandly with numerous festivities, with even Queen Wilhelmina and Princess Juliana visiting the town. The 1925 program booklet inspired to organize another series of festivities 100 years later.
