Social Sailing Sneek

Getting away from everyday worries, the wind through your hair and the water around you. For some people that is anything but natural. With this idea Sociaal Varen Sneek started in 2025: an initiative where volunteers use their boat and time to provide others with a relaxing cruise. The project focuses on people with an illness or disability, their loved ones and caregivers, but also on people over 50 and single older people who need social contact. During the cruises, relaxation is key: get out and enjoy the Frisian lakes and company.

The cruises last on average two hours and take place in and around Sneek. For people with a serious illness, the boat is made available exclusively so that they can sail together with their loved ones in peace and quiet. Group cruises are also organized for elderly people and singles, where meeting each other and making new contacts are central.

Participation is largely free of charge: volunteers make their boat and time available free of charge. Participants pay only a small contribution for fuel costs.

With the initiative, the organization hopes not only to offer people a beautiful experience, but also to inspire others to contribute. Thus, new volunteers with a boat are cordially invited to join.
