Songs and Sonnets by Shakespeare - Capella Sneek

Chamber choir Capella Sneek will perform a program of music from the time of and to texts by Shakespeare on Sunday, April 12, at 4 p.m. in the Noorderkerk Hall in Sneek.

The program offers a special mix of styles: from Renaissance madrigals and lute songs by John Dowland - say the seventeenth-century blues - to the swinging Songs and Sonnets by George Shearing, the blind jazz pianist. Shakespeare actor and connoisseur Wim Smits recites monologues that, despite their age, sound surprisingly fresh and current.
