Storytime and Drawing with Willemke Brouwer at the Sneek Library

Do you love stories and drawing? Then come to this fun storytime with Willemke Brouwer as part of the Lês-mar-foar-wiken. She’ll read a story about the adventures of Tys & Teske. After the reading, kids can get creative and make their own big, colorful drawing.

What can you expect?
Willemke Brouwer will read from a Tys & Teske story. Willemke is the illustrator of Tys & Teske and knows better than anyone how to bring these cheerful characters to life. After the reading, the children will get creative together. On a large sheet of paper, they’ll collaborate on a big drawing that they can color in themselves.

Once the drawing is finished, it will be given a special spot in the library. Afterward, all children will also receive a coloring page and a booklet to take home.

Tys & Teske are the successors to Tomke and are among the best-known children’s characters in Fryslân. Through their adventures, children are introduced to the Frisian language in a playful way.

Who is it for?
This activity is for young, creative children ages 2 through 6 who love stories, drawing, and coloring.

About the“Lêsmar foar wiken”
This activity is part of the“Lês mar foar wiken.” From September 1 through 25, storytime events will take place all over Fryslân: at daycare centers, at child care providers’ homes, at schools, and of course at home! Because reading aloud isn’t just fun—it’s also very important for young children’s language development, and especially for the development of a minority language like Frisian. The “Lês-mar-foar” project is a joint initiative of Afûk, Fers, SFBO, Cedin, and Omrop Fryslân, and aims to raise awareness about reading aloud in Frisian to young children through an annual campaign.
