Just like last year, harmony orchestra Euphonia Wommels has set up a project in which it will give a concert with fellow musicians and singers from all over Friesland, in which a challenging symphony will be played, which calls for a large instrumentation. This year they have chosen The Queen Symphony by Tolga Kashif.

After an appeal among musicians and singers, a choir was formed with about 50 singers. The orchestra has grown to include 30 additional musicians. A total of about 125 musicians and singers will soon be on stage. The orchestra and tutti rehearsals are under the direction of Ronald Slager. The choir prepares, during separate rehearsals, under the expert direction of Martina Hilarides. Martina is also a cellist and will be heard as cello soloist during the concert. Other solo parts for instruments that are not part of the concert band's regular lineup will be played by Roos Valeton (violin), Nadine Blaak (piano) and Geralda de Vries (celesta).

The Queen Symphony by Tolga Kashif (the arrangement for concert band by Erik Somers will be played by Euphonia+) is not just a medley of Queen's highlights. It is a beautiful composition inspired by the timeless songs of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. The atmospheric music is a challenge for the musicians and singers and is a feast of recognition for the listener.
The "Queen must first be crowned," so prior to the symphony, William Walton's Crown Imperial coronation march and Georg Friedrich Handel's magnificent Zadok the Priest are played. Orchestra and choir are under the inspired direction of conductor Ronald Slager. Presenting the concert is Ab Nieuwdorp, known from NPO Klassiek.

The concert will take place on Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Theater Sneek. Tickets are available at the box office of the theater.
