Johannes Vermeer's paintings were the inspiration for artists Gabriëlle Westra and Randolph Algera for their latest art and mienskip project.
  • Friday 15 March t/m Wednesday 15 May10:00 - 17:00

They made a painting of all eleven Frisian cities: Randolph made cityscapes of nominated neighborhoods, Gabrielle portrayed striking inhabitants.

In all works the longing for connection comes to the fore. For example, the cityscape of IJlst shows a zeppelin with a train underneath, referring to the Lelylijn - the fast train connection to the west. And in Sneek, the Indian-born Balwinder is portrayed bringing different cultures into contact with each other in the women's center she founded.

Although entirely of today, the canvases also breathe the atmosphere of the Golden Age. The period rooms of the Fries Scheepvaart Museum are therefore a wonderful setting for this traveling exhibition. Fr11slân through the Eyes of Vermeer will be on display here from March 15 to May 15, 2024.
