New Frisian Saxophone Quartet - Noorderkerk Concert

All members were born and live in Friesland. On soprano and alto saxophone Edith Bakker plays. Besides her work as saxophone teacher at the Kunstencentrum Atrium in Sneek, she has her own teaching practice STER and performs regularly alongside the NFSK with, among others, the Swedish saxophone quartet 'Rollin' Phones'. On alto saxophone Harmke Bijlsma plays. Harmke is saxophone teacher at CKV It Toanhûs in Joure, Lemmer and Balk, and at Seewyn Kunsteducatie in Sint Annaparochie. She also performs regularly, including as a guest soloist at concerts of music societies.
On tenor saxophone Jaap Kastelein plays. He plays among others in the Saxofoonorkest, the Fries Fanfare Orkest and as remplaçant in several big bands and with music associations. He also regularly writes new arrangements for the NFSK. On baritone saxophone Leo Smid plays. He too plays in the Saxophone Orchestra and as a remplaçant in various music associations in the north of the Netherlands. The quartet plays music that is accessible to everyone. Arrangements from the classical repertoire, but also arrangements in the lighter genre such as 'The West Side Story'.
