In 2025 Sneek will celebrate 500 years of the Merchant City, and we won't let that go unnoticed! Discover the rich commercial history of Sneek with a program full of varied activities for residents and visitors alike.

Sneek received some city rights as early as the 13th century, but it was not until the 15th century that they were finally confirmed. In September 1925, Sneek's 400th anniversary as a free Merchant Town was celebrated grandly with numerous festivities, with even Queen Wilhelmina and Princess Juliana visiting the town. The 1925 program booklet inspired to organize another series of festivities 100 years later.
