Excursion 'The secret of the Galgelân'

From Offingawier we walk along the Offenwierstersyl and the ancient Grienedyk to the mysterious Galgelân on the shores of the Sneekermeer lake.

The Galgelân is a botanical reserve with many sedge species on land and a variety of pondweeds in the ditches. Also marsh hawk and cranberry occur here. Guide Nico Brandsma has created a piece of his own new nature consisting of a no longer fertilized meadow and a ditch where he has excavated the clay layer from the banks. On the exposed peat a variety of plants have appeared or perhaps returned from the seed bank. The true cuckoo flowers and yellow iris are a delight here.
