Devote (Oosthem)

The artwork refers to the dedication and connection of the community of Oosthem to and with the church in its broadest sense. The depiction derives its dynamics from the chosen theme "Mound, Church and Wealth." From history, the church has played an important part in the development of the area around Oosthem, and the yield of the land kept the church alive.

Weather-beaten like the ground there lies the rough granite base. The tapered curved bronze form evokes associations with the church as a structure and a living church. The ten rods refer to the ten commandments and represent the pooling of forces that moves the ground plane and supports the main form, thus forming a gesture of devotional recitation.
